...one set of footprints

Do you all know this poem? My sister and bro-in-law have it displayed in their house. I read whenever I visit. It has never had such an inspirational impact on me as it does now and so I'd like to share.

FOOTPRINTS

One night a man had a dream.
He dreamed he was walking along the beach with the LORD.
Scenes from his life flashed across the sky.
He noticed two sets of footprints in the sand,
one belonging to him and the other to the Lord.

When the last scene of his life had flashed before him,
he looked back at the footprints in the sand.
He noticed that certain times of his life,
the saddest times,
there was only one set of footprints.

This really bothered him and he questioned the Lord about it.
"Lord, you said that once I decided to follow you,
you'd walk with me all the way.
I don't understand why, when I needed you most, you would leave me."

..."My precious child,
I love you and I would never leave you.
During your times of trial and suffering,
when you see only
one set of footprints in the sand...
... it was then that I carried you."

I refuse to believe that William's death had something to do with God's plan. I do believe he has a plan for him now. And I believe he has a plan for me and Tommy and our future. Sometimes I feel like God is placing me back down on the ground to walk on my own, but it's the most comforting thought to know I can lean on Him.

Peace, love, and faith,
Liz
